Game Date
Apr 30, 2018
Score
: 4
COOPERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 1

As the season continues, and the table takes shape, there are certain matchups that begin to have a bit more weight to them.  This is especially true in the battle for 3rd place in the JV table this season.  Allendale and Coopersville met on Monday with the winner taking sole possession of 3rd place, and pulling themselves just one game away from a top 2 spot.

The game started quickly for Allendale as Anna Koning found Avery Terpstra (a common connection), scoring the first goal of the game a mere 4 minutes in.  From there, the Allendale team seemed to sputter.  The team couldn't continue that run of form, and slowly Coopersville began to claw their way back into the game.  The equalizer for Coopersville came with 14 minutes left in the first half, as a ball was sent across the goal mouth for a wide open tap in by the Broncos.  The score was tied as the teams entered halftime.  Allendale knew that adjustments needed to be made, and used the time to regroup and reset before the second half.

In the second half, the Falcons came alive.  Lauren Butterfield scoring off an assist from Anna Koning just 5 minutes into the half.  Then, 8 minutes later, Butterfield found Brielle Joslyn for the 3rd falcon goal after receiving a ball off the face of Terpstra.  Coopersville had their chances in the second half, but were stonewalled each time by a defense that had found their rhythm, and Hadley Detter in goal. Not wanting to settle, the Rachel Sinnott pressed with the ball into the corner, and took a shot on goal and, too much for the keeper to handle, is deflected right to Koning's feet, who had no problem slotting it in the back of the net to bring the score to 4-1.

The Falcons would hold Coopersville in the second half, and the game would end 4-1 in favor of Allendale.  The 9-2 Falcons will face off against the undefeated Lakers from Spring Lake on Wednesday at home, a match in which the Falcons seek to avenge a close 2-3 loss in the opening weeks of the season.
