SPORTS MEDICINE SERVICES
Allendale Public Schools is proud to provide Sports Medicine services to all of our student-athletes. Our sports medicine team is involved in all of our teams conditioning, strength training, practices and contests. They have helped impliment ImPACT, or Immediate Post-Concussion Assesment and Cognitive Testing, which is the most widely used and scientifically validated concussion evaluation system. Additionally the Sports Medicine team has implimented MHSAA model policy for head and humidity along with University of Michigan "BRAIN Protocol"; a step-by-step gradual process for return to play post concussion. Members of our Sports Medicine team include:
Justin Wheeler, AT, ATC - Mr. Wheeler grew up in west Michigan and received his undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University. He went on to earn his masters from
Dr. Matthew Boyd, MD - Dr. Boyd earned his medical degree from Wayne State University. He did a fellowship in Sports Medicine through Michigan State Universtiy. He is a board certified Sports Medicine Physician. Dr. Boyd currently practices for Metro Health & is also a member of the Sports Medicine staff for the Grand Rapids Griffins ice hockey team.
We are very fortunate not only to have a working relationship with an MD, but a board certified Sports Medicine one as well.
Scott MacDonald, PT - Mr. MacDonald received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University in the field of Physical Therapy. He has been practicing since 1983 and currently works for Physiotherapy Associates. Mr. MacDonald has had three sons graduate from Allendale Public Schools and has served on the Allendale Public Schools school board. He is a strong asset to our Sports Medicine team and we appreciate his services.
