WHITEHALL H.S.: 1
Allendale made another hour long bus trip north on Thursday, this time to face the Vikings of Whitehall. Allendale, playing back to back days started the game off with high pressure, putting some strain on the Whitehall goalkeeper. Unable to get anything going in the initial rush, the Falcons settled into their formation and began to work the ball through, trying to create opportunities on the run of play. About 15 minutes into the game, Whitehall took advantage of a numbers up situation on the counter attack, and made the game 0-1. Allendale didn't blink, pushing right back, and 5 minutes later, a ball played out wide made it to Brielle Joslyn in the center, who was able to link up with Rehema Sango, who netted the equilizer with 15 minutes left in the second half. The score would go into halftime knotted at one a piece.
In the second half, simply put, Allenadle took over. The team began to string passes together, win the 50/50 balls, and earn dangerous opportunities deep in the second half. Time and time again, Whitehall made solid defensive plays, clearing the ball off the goal line twice. There was a general feeling that Allendale was on the verge of scoring for almost the entire second half, but they were repeatedly rebuffed. With 3 minutes remaining, Freshman Captain Rehema Sango took advantage of a misplayed ball out of the Whitehall back line, and slammed it home on the near post. Allendale held on, including a diving, last minute save by goalkeeper Hadley Detter to seal the comeback win over Whitehall 2-1.
The Falcons finally have a 4 game homestand over the next couple of weeks beginning on Monday against conference opponent Sparta.
